About Dr. Okoth Josue
Doctor of Philosophy from Makerere University, Kampala. The Main areas of speciality are Medical Entomology and Parasitology. Worked as a Senior Research Officer in Tsetse and Trypanosomiasis Organization and published more than 24 scientific papers in international journals. He was the first scientist to establish peri-domestic breeding behaviour of Glossina fuscipes fuscipes by identifying the breeding sites. He also established the preferred resting sites in the peri-domestic habitat. These discoveries have helped in policy making to change tsetse control approach from the traditional bush clearing to trapping with emphasis on community involvement. He developed simple traps with single screens suitable for community use. He was awarded a Certificate of Special Recognition by the Uganda National Farmers Federation in recognition of his distinguished work in developing the MONOSCREEN TSETSE TRAP. He was nominated for the Presidential Science Award 2005/6 Cycle and received a certificate of merit from the President of the Republic of Uganda. He is a founder member of Divine Mercy Hospital. Based on his desires to control vector-borne diseases, he started a clinic with a simple laboratory to detect malaria plus a few other simple diagnoses. This simple unit developed into Divine Mercy Hospital whose objective is to provide health delivery in a holistic manner. His vision is to see this hospital develop into an epitome of holistic quality health care services locally and nationally.
